John Matthews has been Construction Director for the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation since April 2010.

Matthews brings more than 35 years of professional construction experience to CEDC’s construction department, which operates under CEDC’s Real Estate Development Division. CEDC’s construction team serves as the general contractor on all of CEDC’s new and rehabilitation projects. 

Matthews holds several certifications including a California General Engineering and Building Contractor License, and a California Real Estate Broker License. He took graduate courses in business at California Lutheran University, has a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science and an Associates’ degree in Civil Engineering.

Matthews has extensive experience in local building projects including Senior Project Manager for the RiverPark Master Plan in Oxnard, the Village at the Park in Camarillo and the Rancho Del Sur Master Plan in Lancaster. Matthews also has served as Project Civil Engineer on the Lang Ranch Master Plan in Thousand Oaks, and has worked as a grading and storm drain engineer for the J. Paul Getty Museum project in Los Angeles, the Steeple Hill Development in Moorpark, the Black Lake Master Plan Development in Nipomo, and served in similar capacities for several other high-profile construction projects.

Before joining CEDC, Matthews owned and operated his own construction firm, Matthews Construction, for four years.

CEDC was named “2012 Affordable Housing Green Builder of the Year” and received LEED Platinum for Homes Certification for its Azahar Place Apartments in 2012. CEDC is also a licensed general contractor and is available for third-party construction projects and services.
